Event Planning Tips: Getting Started
June 7th, 2010
Secure locations This week on the blog we’ll share some tips to help with your event planning. We’ll start, like any good event, coming up with a concise and solid concept for the event!
First figure out what type of event would better suit your purpose. There are a myriad of event types: Fundraisers, Parties, Educational Programming, Recruitment events. Once you have figured out what type of event your organization wants to host. You need to next pick a point person. Wether it’s a designated e-board position such as your social chair, or a separate appointed brother or sister doesn’t really matter. However it such be a brother or sister that is committed to the event, and who also has the time needed to dedicate to seeing the event through. You want to be considerate and not burden and overload the plate of any member of your organization.
Once you have your event type, and planning team, you can move on to think of themes. This will be pivotal in figuring out what location to look for, and of course mold your marketing plan. One of the first things to consider when coming up with a theme is to figure out if the event is going to be a solo event, or if it will be part of a companion series or week of events. If it’s part of an educational series per say, you have to make sure the message and theme of that is continued through out. The same is true if your event is part of your week on campus.
Now, you that you have the creative juices flowing, stay tuned for more event planning tips throughout the week!
