Efficient Chapters: Strong E-board

The heart of greek letter organizations is its undergraduate chapters. So it is pivotal that your chapters are healthy, growing, and run efficiently. Wether you are part of a national board or running a local chapter, this week we’re going give you tips to help you better run your chapter(s.) The first starting point is having a strong executive board.

A strong leadership for your chapters begins on bid day each year believe it not. Though it may not be the first thing you think of when you offer bids, it should be something that is worthy of consideration. Ask yourself: Is this someone who in a few years could run my chapter? Granted, not every person will be innate leader. Some will grow into in through their college years, others, will simply contribute to the brotherhood or sisterhood in other ways.

They say practice makes perfect, and this is also true of leadership. So it is very important that you encourage your membership to be on e-board in other campus groups and organizations. The benefits to this is two-fold. Your brother and sister get to stretch their leadership wings, and have a new build group of friends and college to tell about the organizations events, or even potentially recruit.

It is common place to see that there’s a core group of members that tend to do the heavy lifting of the work for most organizations. It is crucial that as much as possible, that responsibilities and workload are spread our through out the brotherhood or sisterhood. You don’t burn out people and have them do a poor job, or worse yet, quit the e-board.

To help avoid this send brothers and sisters to leaderships conferences. It’s a great tool particularly for upcoming younger brother or sisters. There are many local conferences at each universities, some regional ones, and prestigious ones like Leadershape. Also take advantage of what ever resources nationals can provide.
